Why We Should Have Homework: 5 Tips For Students

Many people argue that we shouldn't have homework. Many people argue that homework serves no purpose and that students do not benefit from the additional stress. Some argue that students’ lives are stressful enough and there is no need to add to their busy schedule by requiring them to do their homework. But this is inaccurate. These assignments serve a very beneficial purpose. Homework is there to reinforce the concepts which were presented in school. This is why it exists. If you were having trouble with your work below are five tips that you can use to improve your productivity.

  1. The first thing you can do is to study regularly. Again, the more often you practice retrieving something, the easier it becomes. So make sure you set aside a specific time during the day were you work every day. Breakdown your assignments into smaller pieces that you can cover on different days of the week rather than doing it all at once.

  2. Create a workspace where you do all of your work each day. You want to make sure that you do not associate this location with other activities. If you pick a specific space and that remains your workspace, you can instantly turn your brain on to work mode the minute you enter that space.

  3. Within your study space there should be no distractions. If you do not need a computer, do not have the computer on. If you need the computer to type up her paper but you do not need the Internet, turn the Internet off. Keep your phone out of your study space. Simple distractions like this can eat up a significant amount of time and can also cause your brain to lose focus. The more you try and multitask, something which is really misunderstood, the more you will deprive yourself of improved homework performance.

  4. Make sure that you keep all of the tools that you need on hand. If you know that you are setting out to do work for your math class, keep a small box like a pencil box full of your calculator, ruler, protractor, pens, pencils, highlighters, and anything else you might need. Have another box for your science classes with the exact same materials you need for science.

  5. If you need help do not be afraid to ask for it. The best thing you can do for yourself is to ask for help when you need it.
